Algeria Startup Challenge 2026: launch of the flagship innovation program in its 8th edition
August 6, 2026
Launched in 2018, Algeria Startup Challenge (ASC) has become Algeria's leading startup program, connecting startups, researchers, corporates, public institutions, investors, and ecosystem enablers around strategic innovation priorities.
Over the past eight editions, ASC has evolved into a collaborative innovation platform designed to accelerate the development, validation, and adoption of innovative solutions addressing real industrial, economic, and societal challenges.
Built on an ecosystem approach, the program mobilizes the country's innovation stakeholders while creating bridges with international partners to foster technology transfer, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic development.
What sets ASC apart is its venture clienting approach: rather than generic mentorship, the program connects startups directly to corporates through open innovation challenges built around real business problems, with pilot testing (PoC) opportunities on live use cases. It's less about pitching ideas and more about landing a first client and a real-world testing ground.
The track record backs this up. Since its creation, ASC has co-created more than 25 open innovation challenges with partners, addressed over 83 business problem statements, and signed 34 open innovation conventions. Concretely, this has translated into more than 375 promising startups supported, over 124 million DZD in contracts and grants secured by startups.
The 2026 edition runs under the theme "Innovating Across Sectors. Scaling Impact," and carries the patronage of three ministries: the Ministry of the Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-enterprises, the Ministry of Vocational Training, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural developement.
The program targets primarily impact-driven and already-established startups, though early-stage innovative ideas are also welcome to apply. This edition brings together four open innovation challenges, each run with a corporate or institutional partner:
Greentech Challenge (5th edition) in collaboration with BNP Paribas El Djazaïr, focused on the green and digital transition across six thematic tracks: Changing Habits, Biodiversity, Sustainable Cities & Resource Efficiency, Green Skills & Sustainability Awareness, Social Entrepreneurship & Inclusion, and Green & 4.0 Industries.
Smart Care Challenge (2nd edition) in collaboration with WellTech Center by FADERCO, centered on digital, data and AI, structured around two business cases: Industrie Intelligente (real-time monitoring of energy consumption and QHSE indicators across multi-site industrial operations) and Distribution Connectée (end-to-end traceability and optimization of the distribution chain, from factory to point of sale).
Innov & Insure Challenge (3rd edition) in collaboration with the Union Algérienne des Sociétés d'Assurance et de Réassurance (UAR), CASH Assurances (Gold partner) and SAA (Silver partner), addressing agri-insurance and climate risk management, AI-driven insurance transformation, and a dedicated business case with CASH Assurances on AI for claims management and fraud detection.
Harm Reduction Initiative Awards (5th edition) in collaboration with Philip Morris International, covering risk-reduction sub-themes spanning environmental risks, behavioral and consumption risks, industrial and workplace safety, urban risks and smart cities, and health risks.
The Algeria Startup Challenge program is built around four core objectives: federating ecosystem actors to create an environment conducive to innovation; accelerating startups' market access by connecting them with real business and industrial opportunities; strengthening collaboration between startups, corporations, public institutions, investors and research organizations through challenge-driven open innovation; and supporting a new generation of entrepreneurs capable of developing scalable solutions to Algeria's economic, societal and environmental priorities.
Beyond traditional acceleration, Algeria Startup Challenge is designed as a market access program of excellence, where the primary objective is to help startups generate commercial traction as early as possible. Through its venture clienting approach, startups engage directly with industry leaders and institutional partners to co-design solutions, validate use cases, access real testing environments, and transform innovation into concrete business opportunities.
Selected startups will benefit from a comprehensive journey designed to accelerate both product maturity and market validation. They will have the opportunity to refine their prototypes and MVPs, validate their value proposition through direct feedback from future users, identify co-design partners and pilot customers, access real-world testing grounds to demonstrate their technologies, and work alongside industry experts to adapt their solutions to operational needs. The program also supports founders in strengthening their business model, improving their product-market fit, preparing commercial deployment, and building long-term partnerships with corporations and public institutions.
Participants will further benefit from personalized mentoring, technical and strategic coaching, immersive bootcamps, networking with leading ecosystem actors, and increased visibility through Demo Day and national communication campaigns. Financial support will be awarded to the most promising projects, while selected startups will gain privileged access to investors, procurement opportunities, follow-on acceleration programs, and Leancubator's national and international innovation network.
The program is open to Algerian entrepreneurs, researchers, innovators and startup founders residing either in Algeria or abroad, provided that their solutions contribute to the development of the Algerian economy and that they are committed to implementing and scaling their innovation within the country's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The 8th edition unfolds as a journey. It opens in spring with the call for innovations, when the year's challenges and thematics are unveiled alongside partners, inviting startups and innovators from across the country to apply. Selection then plays out in two stages, a preselection followed by interviews narrowing the field down to the startups best positioned to engage with the program's corporate partners.
Those selected are onboarded into a Fast Track Acceleration track: a hybrid, personalized path combining a strategic diagnostic, one-to-one coaching, and group training sessions covering everything from customer discovery to business modeling, go-to-market strategy, legal structuring, fundraising, and pitch storytelling. In parallel, startups live a fully in-person immersion week, moving between Leancubator's headquarters and partner sites for strategic encounters, site visits, hands-on workshops with experts like INAPI on IP and the Algerian Startup Fund on financing, and direct exchanges with founders who've walked the path before them.
The journey builds toward its centerpiece: the Annual Event in October 2026, ASC's flagship gathering that brings the whole ecosystem together for a startup battle, expert panels, strategic partnership signings, and strong media visibility a moment where a year of collaboration between startups and industry translates into recognition, connections, and momentum for what comes next and collaboration pathways between different stakeholders.
